WBA and IRENA discuss collaboration opportunities in Bioenergy

World Bioenergy Association (WBA) met with International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) at the Bonn office, Germany on 09th April 2018 to discuss collaboration opportunities in promoting the sustainable development of bioenergy globally.

IRENA is an intergovernmental organization that supports countries in their transition to a sustainable energy future, and serves as the principal platform for international cooperation, a center of excellence, and a repository of policy, technology, resource and financial knowledge on renewable energy.

The meeting included:

  • Jeffrey Skeer, Senior Programme Officer – Technology Cooperation (Bioenergy), IRENA
  • Dolf Gielen, Director, Innovation and Technology Centre in Bonn, IRENA
  • Remigijus Lapinskas, President, WBA
  • Bharadwaj Kummamuru, Executive Director, WBA

The aim of the meeting was to discuss the activities of WBA and IRENA and to identify potential synergies among various projects in bioenergy. Initial discussions were aimed at: factsheets/technologies briefs; outreach to NGO’s in the energy sector; online platforms for technology transfer; and regional/national action plans for promoting bioenergy.
