Modern Bioenergy for Energy Access and Energy Security: From Local Solutions to Global Impact

Date: 11 November, 10:30-11:00
Location: Press Conference room 2, Area D4, Room Yunus Emre

This year’s disruption to global oil and gas supplies has shown how exposed an energy system heavily dependent on fossil fuels is, and how quickly households can lose access to modern energy. Bioenergy is already a key part of the renewable energy transition. It supplies power, heat, clean cooking and transport fuels, and it represents more than half of the world’s renewable energy supply today. By 2050, it is expected to contribute almost 20% of total energy supply.

The World Bioenergy Association (WBA) invites you to a press conference on November 11th in the Blue Zone of COP31 in Antalya. Speakers from across the bioenergy sector, including biogas, liquid biofuels and solid biomass, will share concrete projects from different regions. They will show how these projects are improving energy access, reducing dependence on imported fuels, and creating local value chains.

The aim is to move the conversation from pledges to deployment. One year after the Belém 4x Pledge on Sustainable Fuels, speakers will also discuss what governments, investors and industry need to scale up proven bioenergy solutions. That includes clear policy signals, finance for local supply chains, and investment in clean cooking.
