The statutes were signed by State Secretary Ola Altera, representing the Swedish EU Presidency, and European Commissioner for Energy Andris Pielbalgs, in a ceremony in Berlin.
"Now Europe is further increasing its focus on renewable energy so that, step-by-step, we can leave the fossil society in favour of climate-smart solutions in an eco-efficient economy," said Altera, the Emirates News Agency (WAM) reports.
IRENA, based in Abu Dhabi, was established in January 2009 and already counts 137 countries as members.
