Presentations from the WBA Side Event at DIREC, Oct 28 2010, India

The recently held Delhi International Renewable Energy Conference (DIREC), October 27-29, gathered ministers and Government representatives from 71 countries.

The theme for conference was ”Upscaling and mainstreaming renewables for energy security, climate change and economic development" and it was hosted by the Government of India, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy. DIREC had about 13.500 visitors to the conference and exhibition of which 2.000 were conference delegates.
 

WBA organised an Official Side Event on October 28 under the headline: “Possibilities to increase the supply of Sustainable Biomass for Energy”. The aim was to promote global efforts to scale up renewable energy and to reflect an approach that integrates technological, policy, financial, economic, social, and environmental dimensions. WBA also had the intention to inspire for a start up of an Indian Bioenergy Association. WBA have reported that the global potential of sustainable biomass for energy is enough to meet the energy demand 2050 and demonstrated examples of sustainable bioenergy in different parts of the world during the side event. 

 

These presentations are exclusive to WBA members and also includes a paper on "The role of bioenergy in India, development and who are the actors in the sector today", composed by Dr Sribas Bhattacharya.
